Snow

Soft white flakes gently float and flutter down
Landing on evergreen boughs and covering the ground

Green grass grows faint as snow frosts the lawn
With white stuff like cold dandelion fluff

It piles on and piles up and bleaches out the world
‘til everything seems crystalline and glistening and pure

Coming like a saving grace, forgiving all our sins
It welcomes in another year, and we are new again

  1. Lyrical, and those first hours are always amazing, no matter how many snowfalls you've seen. I do like that sense of purity and renewal snow brings--up to the point where I have to drive in it. ;)

  4. Snow is pretty, but you don't have to shovel rain. Dig the poem though.

  5. This is glorious, Eric. One of my favourites of yours.
I love so many lines and images - the green grass growing faint, the world being bleached. Superb.

  7. Hi Eric - I particularly like your line, 'Green grass grows faint as snow frosts the lawn' with that subtle play on the word 'grows'

  10. We hardly get any snow out here in South Africa but when it does happen it happens exactly how you described it here.

  11. How true! A winter is so necessary to get rid of old stuff and welcome the new again. A very positive refreshing poem.
