Hickory Lane

I want to live on a street called Hickory Lane
In a small town where everybody knows my name
A place that’s nice and clean and quiet and slow
And people take their time wherever they go

On Hickory Lane the houses are rather small
But the neighbors are friendly as they wave and call
The town’s fire department has only five men
And their honest mayor gets elected again and again

Fourth of July parades and winter festivals gay
The whole town shuts down on Labor Day
Although it sounds simple, it’s hard to explain
Why I want to live on a street called Hickory Lane

The post office is run by a kindly old gent
His son’s mail bag never makes his back bent
He delivers your mail with such a big smile
That you don’t even mind the bills in your pile

There’s just one deputy for the sheriff to need
Crime is rarely in the newspaper they all read
I have said it before and I will say it again
I want to live on a street called Hickory Lane
