Wednesday Wickedness: Stephen King

Hi and welcome to Wednesday Wickedness!

We are like other memes in that we will ask you ten questions each and every Wednesday.  But our little ‘twist’ is that each week we will pick a famous person and pick ten of their quotes.  Each of our questions will be based on the quotes.  The quotes are in bold.  Got it?  Great!  Let's begin this week's meme!

Today we picked Stephen King.  Here's Wednesday Wickedness!

1. “I tend to scare myself…”

When was the last time you scared yourself?

I don’t get scared easily, especially by myself.
(Hey! Looking in the mirror doesn’t count!)

But I do remember one time...

I was listening to a new CD while driving down a busy highway.  Since it was new, I turned up a little so I could hear it better above the road noise.  Unbeknownst to me, one of the songs suddenly had the sound of an angry car horn driving by (even switching from right to left) and it startled me quite a bit.  I frantically checked my mirrors, my hands twitching on the steering wheel, ready for evasive maneuvers.

2. “Time heals all wounds…”

What was the longest it took you to recover from an illness, injury or surgery?

I have a slightly-torn tendon in my right shoulder that occurred while I was driving a tent stake over three years ago. It still hurts now and then - I’m starting physical therapy for it.

3. “Your first impulse is to share good news. Your second is to club someone over the head with it…”

What was the last good news you had to share?

My nephew and his wife, both Marines stationed in Okinawa, just had their first child last week.  (I always said I was a great uncle!)

4. “When it comes to the past, we all stack the deck…”

Is there something in your past you speak highly of that was not so great while you were going through it?

I usually speak fondly of my days as a restaurant cook. I picked up a lot of handy cooking skills and food knowledge while working there, but a busy restaurant kitchen is a ROUGH place to work. On top of all the cuts and burns, you go home smelling like a combination of smoke, grease, sweat and various foods you got on yourself.

5. “Do you drink? Of course! I just said I was a writer!..”

What do you need to drink to do?

Fast dance.  I’m no dancing machine, so a bit of liquid courage helps me loosen up enough not to care.  (But slow dancing is no problem)

6. “If you liked being a teenager, then there’s something really wrong with you…”

What did you like about being a teenager?

All the free-time I had to hang-out with my friends, doing whatever we had the money to do. These days free-time isn’t as abundant and disposable income is very limited. But my bills are paid and there’s always food in the fridge.

7. “Nobody likes a clown at midnight…”

What do you like at midnight?

Sleep.  I sometimes stay up late and watch TV, but (what I think are) the best shows are over by 11 p.m.

8. “It is the tale, not he who told it…"

Who is your favorite teller of tales or jokes?

Ray Bradbury.

9. “The trust of the innocent is the liar’s most useful tool…”

Were you ever conned or fooled into a scam?

Not that I recall.  I can usually sense when something isn’t quite right.

10. “If fear cannot be articulated, then it can’t be conquered…”

What do you fear?

My biggest fear is ignorance, since it leads people to make hasty (and usually wrong) conclusions.

    5. I don't drink. I had Tequila (or Tay-Kwillah, as we say here in the South) once and woke up with a strange man in a house under construction with no windows. This is too bizarre to make up. I never drank again.
    6. Kissing boys.
    7. The full moon shining in my windows making abstract artwork on my faux wood floors...
