Nobody I

**

I ran through the garden gate
I felt like I was running too late
to meet you by the dancing pond

The Peace Bell rang a thousand times
echoes filling the Valley of The Temples
as I hurried along The Path to find you

I crossed the bridge of a thousand birds
who need no bridges at all and laughed
at me as I quickly moved along

Then I saw the Phoenix on the horizon
the Golden One in its broad belly
sitting peacefully amidst the fog

The green hills reflected gold
in the playful waters that I saw
and didn’t see you there

I wondered if I'd missed you somehow
just a step or two behind
and turned around to face myself

Where I was, you were
and where you were, I went
together yet apart, like sides of a coin

The Golden One asked me, “What do you seek?”
I answered him, “I seek you, great one”
“Am I not here?” he asked

“Of course you are!” I laughed,
“for I can see you right there!”
He smiled, “I am here and there”

“How can you be both?” I asked
“Because all is one,” he replied,
“and here is there - one and the same”

Then I smiled because I knew you were here
and you smiled because you knew I was there
and the Phoenix smiled because we knew

We walked together, here and there
to the middle where we met
and found echoes that never fade

We embraced each other, and the world
and everyone, and everything, and all
with arms that knew no bounds

I love the mood you have created in this poem, subtle yet felt all the way through.

  2. I especially loved the same stanza Kerry quoted. Very beautiful, the images rose in my mind as I read. Lovely.
