All hail the written word
Better than speakers sage
The best orators ever heard
Still read it from the page
With spoken words
The wrong inflection
Derails all meaning
Dissuades understanding
The proper words
Need no correction
Details all leaning
To sway another’s planning
Awesome awesome awesome!
ReplyDelete"Words" are one thing.. the right inflection/punctuation are another story altogether!! One space here, one missed space there, and the world suddenly is a war zone!
I concur 100% with what you've written here, Eric... And amazing one shot!!!
Interesting write here. I liked it. Love and Light, Sender
ReplyDeleteWell said! How true about the misconstructions of the spoken word. Getting worse in this time of piecemeal education. How I love work about the process and the words themselves. Well done! Thanks, Gay
ReplyDeleteperfect !!!
ReplyDeleteThose words are so important. Nicely done.
ReplyDeletenice one shot...i have a growing appreciation for spoken word...it does add different meanings which are not always bad...
ReplyDeleteYes~the written word is so much better. Time to think and edit and pause to reflect. Much better than spontaneous speaking! I love this one!
ReplyDeleteWritten words can be read different ways. That is also the beauty of the read. Great Post Eric.
ReplyDeleteDeep one Eric..interesting!
ReplyDeleteThought-provoking...This would sound great read aloud. lol Just kidding. There has been the privilege of speech over written words since the ancient Greeks. It's good to consider that perhaps it's an unjustified claim.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. WE got to be careful with wwhat we say. Which we seldom so.
ReplyDeleteode to un-puntuated verses
The written word is true!
ReplyDeletelove it here is to Hailing the written word....bkm
ReplyDeleteHaving spent a large part of my career as a speechwriter, I can say -- you are exactly right. Good poem.
ReplyDeleteI liked this, Eric. It's true - writing always open to interpretation.
ReplyDeleteya know the written word has always been a useful tool. Useful in unveiling the truth and convincing - so powerful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eric for the One Shot
Moon smiles
All hail the written word...
ReplyDeleteॐ नमः शिवाय
Om Namah Shivaya
Love the second and third stanzas, oh so true. :)
ReplyDeletemagic is in the making,
ReplyDeletejust kidding...
love the ending in your piece,
brilliant flow.
great one shot! i love the written word - but also the spoken - both has it's place - but what can beat an evening on the couch with a glass of red wine and a fantastic book…no speaker in the world…smiles
ReplyDeleteI like the way it rhymes , it has such a great staccato beat to it. nice one stop.
ReplyDeleteJoanny
So true, being an orator is a lost art.
ReplyDeleteHappy one shot!
good reflection on the word! Thanks for reading and commenting on my poem. Hope your week goes well.
ReplyDeleteall hail indeed.....an enjoyable poem...advocating such truths..cheers pete
ReplyDeleteYou got a way with words Bubba...
ReplyDeleteExcellent One Shot. With so much of the written word, we miss the intention without hearing the inflection. But get the wrong reader, and inflection can change the intention. And around and around. A conundrum.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my place.
Very nicely done, and quatrains are favorites of mine. Of course, my preference is the written word, well-orated. :)
ReplyDeleteThis a great poem, very nicely worded! Great One Shot!
