Yes, I have some of the same questions you have. I have wished for a simple faith too, but faith is not simple. I wonder too about God punishing his own children for doubt and wonder why the Omnipotent demands so much from the weak.
Glad to see you here at Vice/Versa with such a fine piece of writing.
I wholeheartedly agree... it isn't that I don't want to join in because I'm evil or something worse. Just honest and with a soft heart. What's wrong with that? The question that resonated most... Why must we subjugate to gain entrance? Well done.
I LOVE the ending. I truly believe what you wrote there, that an interpretation of the divine to be nonuniversalist is limited my human limitation - like you say "making God in our image". I've seen so much pain, especially in families, as you wrote, because of such interpretations of God. I find it very sad and scary. And you wrote it well.

These are the same things that I wonder.
ReplyDeletewell written. it is a shame there is so much to question, but maybe that is our nature...I don't pretend to understand.

ReplyDeleteA question many of us ask ourselves...only if it were that easy!

Indeed! I have thought that many a time but couldn't have worded it this well. Nicely written, Eric! :)
This is SO right on! Begs the question: Who made whom in whose image?
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, those eternal questions!
