An afternoon’s meadow-larking
A man wanders an old hay field
Wondering about old farm ways
Crossing to the surrounding woods
Spring bramble just still passable
Just through; rusty railroad tracks
Stepping out from the thicket
He surprises a young man
Casually walking the tracks
The older man smiles, nods hello
The younger does the same
Pleasantry off-setting uneasiness
The older man turns around
Goes back into the woods
Leaves the younger to his tracks
He ponders a bit about the young man
Wonders where exactly he was headed
Or, perhaps, what he was leaving behind
I wonder what he is leaving behind.... sweet poem.
