Testing One's Sanity

I recently acquired a bottle of hot sauce made with the world’s hottest chili pepper, the Naga Jolokia, a.k.a. the Ghost Pepper.

The sauce is made by Dave’s Gourmet, a company known for its blazingly-hot pepper sauces.  Their most (in)famous sauce is Dave’s Insanity sauce.

Dave’s Insanity sauce is extremely potent stuff, definitely not for casual use.  It was even banned from the National Fiery Foods Show for being too hot.  It has a heat scale on the side of the bottle that says, rather matter-of-factly, “INSANE”

But this Ghost Pepper sauce is even hotter still!  The heat scale on the bottle reads “INSANE ++”

It’s basically an ingredient, rather than a condiment, to be used by the drop.  It even has warnings on the label about its use...

Quite honestly, I’m reluctant to try it.  Is this a product a sane person would even try, much less buy?  Have I lost my mind?

  1. Please try and post a video of your insanity. I could use a laugh.

  2. My ex used to be on a volleyball team that was sponsored by Gun Slinger hot sauce. We had a party once when they won a tournament and set up a tray of bite-sized candy bars and a bowl of hot sauce. Yes, we did! I found the Butterfinger was the best one with hot sauce. Go for it! Think of it this way; if it burns a hole in your tongue, just get a cute little silver stud earring and put in it.

  5. Hotter than Dave's Insanity Sauce??!!? That's craaazy hot. I used to say that DIS was hot for hot sake and had not use other than to kick it up on the Scoville Scale. I think I'll pass as well.

  8. A little drop'll do ya, Eric. Please be careful.

And hey remember how "Gas Man" bit the dust in the original "Dumb & Dumber?" Don't let yourself be that guy, okay??!!! Watch your burgers.

  10. I'd be afraid to eat any sauce with that warning label! The part that really got to me was "not for people with heart/respiratory problems." Yikes!

  11. Yeah, you're definitely a little crazy if you try it, but life is more fun when lives with a drop of crazy. :)

  12. Ooh, you should definitely be cautious with the insanity sauce. Anything around a teaspoon or more of that condiment can be brutal on the tastebuds. It's almost as strong as pure capsaicin, which is way up there in the Scoville scale.

You may put in your 2¢ worth, but I'll only pay you a penny for your thoughts.
