The Call of Autumn

I feel autumn’s call
as leaves start to fall

Apples for picking
Clocks are a-ticking

Bringing shorter days
and harvest moon phase

School bells a-chiming
Halloween rhyming

Dark skeletal trees
that quake in the breeze

Watch for goblins strange
and leave’s color change

Raked into piles high
under the slate sky

Rosy cheeks showing
crisp winds are blowing

Sweet cider mill treats
and hay wagon seats

Thick sweater weather
couples together

Walking hand in hand
Isn’t fall just grand?

  1. Well, it's grand except we have no trees changing and apple cider, or cold weather, or even a guy to hold hands with. Okay, now I'm depressed. I'm realizing all the things I'm missing in the desert!

  19. Yes Fall is just grand and so is your poem. On the islands the change of season is reflected in the flowers and fruits that bloom but in other parts of the world it is reflected in the weather and the changing of the summer to cooler months to arrives into the winter months. Well done

  28. we don't have "fall" here, but then again, a poet's mind doesn't need presence to imagine and i love the images i see through your words as well :) lovely!
