One fine spring day in
early May
A ship of Kent went
sailin’
The trip was made on winds
of trade
The wives of Kent left
wailin’
These men of Kent they
often went
On flights of fancy
playin’
With pirate games and
made-up names
While anchor they were
weighin’
Come drink some rum, ye pirate boys
Your wives of Kent are fadin’
So drown your sorrow until tomorrow
In the arms of island maidens
The fine young crew knew
what to do
And minded their dear
captain
These Kent men brave were
not afraid
No matter what might
happen
But then one day, many
miles away
A stormy sea had got ‘em
The sails got tossed,
their ship was lost
And sank right to the
bottom
Come drink some rum, ye pirate boys
Your wives of Kent are fadin’
So drown your sorrow until tomorrow
In the arms of island maidens
Love the flow of this almost as though you can feel the ship rocking.
