Small white ball rolls
across the floor
Of an all-red carpeted
room
Antique rocking chair
Rocking on its own
Noises like voices in
another room
Then the heaviest quiet
Willowy curtains billowing
In an unfelt breeze
Far-off echoes of laughter
Without a first laugh
Faint scent of roses
And old lavender
Shadow across the window
There but gone
Scratching sounds in the
wall
A sudden loud thump
Small white ball rolls back
again
In an all-red carpeted
room
