People judge me, making
assumptions based on the color of my skin
From my ethnicity, they
presume to know my ethics and morals
From what they see, they
assume my social and educational status
People judge me,
taking precautions for who they think I am
People judge me, claiming
to know my background and family history
From my dress, they
pigeon-hole me with others of similar attire
From what they hear,
they lump me together with others ‘like me’
People judge me, labeling
me as only one thing or another
People judge me, making
assumptions based on what ‘my people’ do
From my ethnicity,
they presume to know my taste in music or art
From what they see,
they assume my politics and religious beliefs
People judge me, taking
me to task for what they think I am
I might be just a
middle-aged, middle-class,
Caucasian-American male
Or I might just be
you
So very pleased to have found your poems. Looking forward to more. Peace and all good things for you in poetry and in life.

who are you? All I know for sure is you like beer. haha - just kidding. My New Year's resolution is to stop assuming anything about anyone or anything. This poem reminded me of that.
