War

A contest of wills
put to the test
on battlefields
whence iron meets flesh

Swords are drawn
of warrior's trust
piercing wounds
with every thrust

Heated conflict
advance, retreat
surging with
the heavy beat

Wailing moans and
gnashing teeth
sweat and turmoil
underneath

This clash of bodies
will not cease
until surrender
brings them peace

  1. Great poem, Bubba! "Surrender" resonates in a couple of different ways for me, not only on a level between warring factions but on that personal level of surrendering and not fighting life anymore. Nice!

  2. A fleeting peace one might add, for it is a cyclical thing, and what was seen once, always seems to come around again...

Sound capture of war, my friend. You've caught it in a nut shell, as unfortunate a thing as it is.

  4. Personally I think war should be replaced by either arm wrestling or scrabble :o)
You describe the war part very well though.

  8. I wish war could end in only a few verses....well done, Bubba! Sadly, you will nver run out of fuel for poetry. We don't end one war before the next one starts.
